About

Shannon Nielsen is a research technician with the Right Whale Research Program. Her work focuses on maintaining the Right Whale Photo-ID Catalog, which includes entering sightings data, assigning images of individual whales, coding images, sightings, and behaviors, and identifying individual right whales using DIGITS software. Before joining the New England Aquarium team, she worked as a research assistant at Allied Whale, where she gained photo-ID and research experience with large whale species. Most recently, she worked as a wildlife observer and sonar technician at the Maine Department of Marine Resources.
