Shark tagging around Nantucket Caroline Collatos

Caroline Collatos is a PhD student at UMass Boston who conducts her research and works with scientists from the New England Aquarium. Originally from Massachusetts, Caroline grew up with an endless fascination for the ocean and nature, which was accelerated by her time spent on Nantucket. Her first memories of the ocean are from Nantucket beaches where she learned to swim as a child. Caroline has focused on pursuing marine science since highschool and completed her undergraduate work at Boston University. She then went on to get her master’s at Coastal Carolina University, where her work focused on shark ecology and habitat use. Between and after her schooling, Caroline also worked at many other institutions and research organizations locally and abroad, including institutions in Florida, the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama, and the Bimini Sharklab in the Bahamas. She is currently pursuing her PhD and focusing on shark activity in the Nantucket Sound area. Her primary research focuses on fish ecology and providing science to improve fisheries management. She also has one dog and two cats and loves to fish, garden, and paint in her free time.
