BOSTON, MASS. (June 29, 2020) – The New England Aquarium is now offering virtual animal encounters for groups to interactively learn about its penguins and marine mammals from afar.

Through Zoom sessions, Aquarium staff members are providing intimate experiences with an up-close look at the animals, sharing facts about the species and answering questions from participants. These new encounters are part of the Aquarium’s ongoing efforts to stay connected with the public during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Groups have two different options available. In the Marine Mammal Encounter, participants can engage with a marine mammal trainer as they conduct a teaching session with a California sea lion or northern fur seal. Initially, the opportunity will be available daily at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. The Penguin Encounter is all about the New England Aquarium’s colony of over 70 penguins. Experts share facts about the species, the care they receive at the Aquarium, and how you can take action to protect these beloved animals. The experiences are offered daily at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Both opportunities are $150 per group for a 30-minute session.
