About

Rachel, a Massachusetts native, grew up visiting the New England Aquarium, fostering a lifelong passion for marine life. She earned her marine biology degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington before returning to the Boston area to join the Aquarium in 2014. Over the years, Rachel has held various positions in the Animal Care division and now serves as the Curator of Fishes and Invertebrates.

In her current role, Rachel oversees the Fishes Department, with teams at both the Animal Care Center in Quincy, MA, as well as the Aquarium in Boston. These teams are dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of animal care and welfare for the Aquarium’s diverse inhabitants, including fishes, shorebirds, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. She is also an active member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Animal Welfare Committee, where she helps to develop and implement metrics to measure and advance animal welfare and well-being at zoos and aquariums nationwide.
