BOSTON, MASS. (July 21, 2022) – The New England Aquarium is reacting to passage of state climate and offshore wind legislation. Vikki N. Spruill, President and CEO of the New England Aquarium, issued the following statement:
“Climate change is an existential threat to our Commonwealth, its residents, its economy, and its ecosystems. Our coastal waters off Massachusetts slated for offshore wind development—a low-carbon energy source that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions—are an important habitat for numerous marine species, including the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale. We can safeguard marine species and habitats while ensuring that the blue economy of the future meets our clean energy needs.”
