About
As the associate vice president of Flagship Ocean Initiatives at the New England Aquarium, Sarah leads programs at the intersection of ocean conservation and evolving maritime industries. Her portfolio spans the responsible development of the blue economy alongside active efforts to protect critically endangered species.
Reiter’s career reflects an uncommon range of expertise, bridging legal scholarship, government service, scientific research, and advocacy across both domestic and international arenas. Before joining the Aquarium, she served on the faculty at Vermont Law School as an Assistant Professor of Law, where she led an observer delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties (COP) negotiations on behalf of small island nations. She has lectured on climate and high seas treaty law at the University of Oxford, and has co-authored more than 25 articles and reports on ocean and wildlife issues. Her research and commentary have appeared in prominent venues including Science and TEDxBoston Planet Action.
She began her career as an oceanographer and meteorologist for the U.S. military and since transitioned into ocean conservation work with previous experience at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of General Counsel, the Center for Ocean Solutions at Stanford University, and Monterey Bay Aquarium.
